The audience enjoyed the show so much that we are introducing it to our repertoire. In particular now during the carnival, it will be a perfect way to spend the evening. Especially for you, everything best. Songs, humor, scenes from the inter-war time, in other words, it will be just like a pre-war cabaret. The time of life! The time of fun! The time of singing! The time of dancing! The time of laughter! The time when everything was possible! Let’s live it again in the Jewish Theatre, we keep playing for you.

Documentary, Poland/USA 2019, 75 minutes, screened in Polish and English with subtitles

A large still-life painting hung on the wall above Lilka Elbaum’s childhood bed in Lodz, Poland. It was the first thing she saw when she woke up, and the last thing she saw before she fell aslep. This painting hung on this very spot perhaps since the building was first inhabited in the late 1890s. Until the war these were Jewish families, then during the war, a German family, and then after the war, Lilka’s Jewish family. Hence, the painting ultimately became a silent witness to the tragic history of Lodz’s Jews.
