Jewish writers reading club – Masters read: fragments of the novel by Sholem Aleichem “From the market” interpreted by MIROSŁAW ZBROJEWICZ

The novel was translated by Michał Friedman

Mirosław Zbrojewicz – a well-known and well-liked Polish actor, who gained popularity mainly for his character parts. Even though, after his 1981 graduation from the National Academy of Dramatic Art, he spent long years on stages of theaters across Poland as well as playing in TV dramas, it was the cinema that appreciated him most.  Zbrojewicz appeared in over a hundred roles in celebrated cinema productions, including many iconic comedies: Olaf Lubaszenko’s “Boys Don’t Cry”, „E=mc²”, and „Sztos 2” In recent years, he appeared in Tomasz Wasilewski’s “Floating Skyscrapers” and Jerzy Skolimowski’s “11 minutes”.

Dorota Stalińska – Polish theater actress, movie actress, and social activist. Talented, popular, winner of numerous accolades. Perceived as a courageous, dynamic artist (and person), who does not give in to conventions. Her preferred genre is monodrama. In 1976, graduated from Warsaw’s National Academy of Dramatic Art. While still a student, Stalińska started to appear on stage in the Theater in Wola in Warsaw, established shortly before, and in the year of her graduation, joined the cast of the Polish Television Theater.  She cooperated with numerous theaters in Warsaw, including Powszechny Theater, Studio Buffo Theater, Syrena Theater, Współczesny Theater in Wrocław, and Baltic Opera. Created many unforgettable parts in movies, including that of a reporter in Andrzej Wajda’s “Man of Marble”, lead roles in Barbara Sass’ “Without Love” and “Immoral History”, as well as appearing in various TV dramas.  Initiated the establishment of the “Nadzieja” (“Hope”) foundation which fights for safety on Polish roads. She is also one of the founders of the “Nasz Dom” (“Our Home”) association, an organizer of support for children’s homes.

Bella Szwarcman-Czarnota – philosopher, translator, editor of “Midrasz” monthly, author of several books, including “Znalazłam wczorajszy dzień (I Have Found Yesterday),” “Mocą przepasały swe biodra (They Girded Their Loins with Power)” and “Cenniejsza niż perły (More Precious Than Any Pearls),” “Księga kobiet – kobiety Księgi (The Book of Women – The Women of the Book),” and the latest one “W poszukiwaniu złotego jabłka. Lider buch – śpiewnik rodzinny (In Search of the Golden Apple. Lider buch – The Family Songbook),” prepared together with Róża Ziątek-Czarnota and Dorota Szwarcman.

Jewish Literary Salon: promotion of the book “Day one” by Kristof Zorde

“Day One” is a collection of short stories written on the basis of the author’s experiences in Israel in the early 1970s.

A March emigrant who came back to Poland as early as 1989, MBA graduate and doctor of philosophy, author of, among others, “Metaphysical Motives in Economy” – since the very beginning of his emigration to Denmark, Krostof Zorde has been involved in capital markets. As the partner in Sakt Annae Bank, he led about 150 issues, including the World Bank, Deutsche Bank, IBM, British Petroleum, Mac Donald’s and Coca-Cola. In Poland, as the advisor to the Minister of Privatization, he took part in the first Polish privatizations, both individual and sector-wide. He also took part in developing institutions and processes of the Polish capital market. He floated on the stock exchange many well-known Polish companies: Budimex, Indykpol, Śląska Fabryka Kabli or Mostostal. He currently runs the BookBook bookstores.
