The 1930’s Warsaw with the variety shows, theaters and cafes was the European capital of the tango. Polish tangos in Hebrew are a very special chapter in the history of Jewish music in Poland; they represent a genre that cannot be found in any other European country. Tangos in Hebrew were recorded in the 1930s by the famous Adam Aston who did it under the pseudonym of “Ben Lewi” for the Polish label Syrena Records. The recordings were shipped and sold in Tel Aviv, where Syrena Records had its representative office. And this is how Polish tangos were danced in Tel Aviv cafes: Adam Aston in Tel Aviv continued to sing sharing the voice of the amused Warsaw of the 1930s ”.
Olga Avigail – a singer, researcher of Polish-Jewish music, internationally recognized as one of the leading artists associated with the revival of Yiddish music in Poland, and Tango Attack, a “modern tango band”, inspired by both the tradition and avant-garde of Argentinian tangos in the world, together they create a unique project. In the concert “Polish Hebrew tangos” we will the famous hits, such as: “The Last Sunday”, “Play, the violinist, play”, “Fairy tale”, “Caravan”, as well as forgotten tangos and oriental foxtrots. New arrangements prepared for the tangos presented by traditional Argentinian band with the cult bandeon will balance between a very delicate contemporary sound and the unique tango style.
