Concert: “JEWISH SONGS IN UKRAINE. SHPIL MIR A DUMKE!” | OLGA AVIGAIL MIELESZCZUK & TRIO KOL ISHE

“Shpil mir a dumke!” is a fascinating musical journey to the Jewish shtetels of Ukraine. The program of the concert of Olga Avigail Mieleszczuk consists of folk songs in Yiddish, niguns – Chassidic songs without words, Ukrainian folk songs, and Klezmer pieces inspired by Ukrainian folklore. Also included will be unique, musical treasures, findings of the Jewish ethnomusicologist Moisei Beregovsky, who traveled in Ukraine in the 1920’, phonograph in hand, looking for authentic Yiddish music of Ukrainian Jews. Olga is accompanied by the female trio “Kol Ishe” (Female Voices), comprised of outstanding instrumentalists: Marta Maślanka (cimbalom), Gosia Szarlik (violin), and Izabela Buchowska (cello).

Olga Avigail Mieleszczuk is an artist born in Warsaw and residing in Jerusalem, currently one of the leading figures on the global Yiddish scene. Singer, accordionist, and researcher of Eastern European musical traditions, she initiates intercultural projects involving artists from Poland, Israel, and the US. Mieleszczuk released five albums with Jewish and Israeli music. She performs on prestigious scenes and festivals in Europe, America, Canada, and Israel.
