This year\u2019s events, organised under the honorary auspices of the President of Warsaw Rafa\u0142 Trzaskowski, will begin with the <\/strong><strong>El Malei Rachamim prayer at the Monument of the Ghetto Heroes in Warsaw. As part of the events, citizens of Warsaw will light candles in their windows, and an empty tram marked with the Star of David will travel the streets of Warsaw. The Ester Rachel and Ida Kami\u0144ska Jewish Theatre has prepared a unique event: a performance entitled \u201cPif paf in piach\u201d, which is a theatrical meeting with personalities of Warsaw\u2019s ghetto taking place in the nooks and crannies of a three-storey building of Reduta Bankowa at 10 Biela\u0144ska Street in Warsaw. The event has been inspired by its directress: Go\u0142da Tencer.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Commemoration<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The International Holocaust Remembrance Day was established on 1 November 2005 by the General Assembly of the United Nations. The chosen date was 27 January, which is the anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camp in Auschwitz-Birkenau that took place in 1945. The day was established not only to commemorate the people murdered during WW2 by the Nazi Germany, but also to express a clear objection to not recognising the Holocaust as a historical fact. In its resolution, the General Assembly of the United Nations also called for action to encourage all nations to educate their people about the Holocaust and to keep the memory alive so that the events could serve as a warning against hate, racism and prejudice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-14972 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/shalom.org.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/IMG_9186-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shalom.org.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/IMG_9186-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/shalom.org.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/IMG_9186-1-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/shalom.org.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/IMG_9186-1-1024x684.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/shalom.org.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/IMG_9186-1-382x255.jpg 382w, https:\/\/shalom.org.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/IMG_9186-1-350x234.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Every year, the commemoration of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day in Warsaw brings together representatives of the national and local governments, embassies as well as social and religious organisations. During the event, the representatives will lay down flowers <strong>at<\/strong> <strong>the Monument of the Ghetto Heroes (27 January, 1 p.m., Zamenhofa St.\/Sendlerowej St.)<\/strong>. The support and participation of the representatives of the Catholic Church and other religious communities will constitute a very important symbol emphasising the spiritual character of the event. The representatives of the churches and religious communities will say an ecumenical prayer for the murdered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Performance &#8220;Pif paf in piach&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(Due to the Covid-19 epidemic the show has been postponed)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">In the framework of the commemoration, the Ester Rachel and Ida Kami\u0144ska Jewish Theatre<strong> \u2013 the Yiddish Culture Centre <\/strong>invites everyone to attend a performance entitled <strong>\u201c<\/strong><strong>PIF PAF IN PIACH\u201d <\/strong>directed by Go\u0142da Tencer in cooperation with Karolina Kirsz, based on the scripts created by<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Remigiusz Grzela, Karolina Kirsz, Piotr Pazi\u0144ski, Pawe\u0142 Szapiro, Bella Szwarcman-Czarnota, Go\u0142da Tencer, R\u00f3\u017ca Zi\u0105tek-Czarnota and Agnieszka \u017b\u00f3\u0142kiewska. The performance takes place on 27 January, 5-8 p.m. in the building of Reduta Banku Polskiego at 10 Biela\u0144ska Street in Warsaw. Free admittance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><em>The ghetto in Warsaw lived. The ghetto in Warsaw danced. The ghetto in Warsaw laughed. All this before death came to take the lives, the desires and the will of survival of its citizens. There were around 60 theatres, cabarets, variety shows, clubhouses, cafes and restaurants in the Jewish quarter, each of which presented its own artistic repertoire. These were the places where people were trying to forget about the everyday nightmare of the surrounding world. These places were full of artists, writers, poets, musicians, singers and actors:<\/em> <em>W\u0142adys\u0142aw Szpilman,&nbsp;Jerzy Jurandot, Stefania Grodzie\u0144ska or Wiera Gran, to name just a few. We invite you to meet them all while taking a walk in the three-storey building of Reduta Bankowa, in whose nooks and crannies you will find the extraordinary personalities and the shadows of the world that was destroyed by the Holocaust, <\/em>says Go\u0142da Tencer, the manager of the Jewish Theatre and the initiator, playwright and directress of the performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The Light of Remembrance<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><em>On this day, we would like to bring back the shadows of the people murdered in ghettoes and camps. The symbol of the remembrance will be a lit candle. To do this, please visit the Facebook profile of Shalom Foundation (https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/fundacja.shalom), download a photograph of a candle in the window and post it on your wall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Symbol: a historic tram<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">On 27 January, between 12 a.m. and 6 p.m., as every year, a historic tram marked with the Star of David will travel the streets of Warsaw. The empty vehicle will symbolise the tram that operated in Warsaw\u2019s ghetto. Its aim is to remind the citizens of the capital about their Jewish neighbours who were murdered in concentration camps and ghettoes during WW2. The tram will travel along the following route: pl. Narutowicza \u2013 Marsza\u0142kowska &#8211; Stawki \u2013 Popie\u0142uszki &#8211; Metro Marymont \u2013 Okopowa, pl. Zawiszy \u2013 pl.
