The 18th International Seminar of Yiddish Language and Culture ended

30 czerwca 2020 - 19 lipca 2020@1

Friday evening at Yiddish Cultural Center was very special – dozens of people from all over the globe met online to wrap up and conclude the 18th International Seminar of Yiddish Language and Culture, which took place between June 29 and July 17. This is the first course that has been conducted remotely. Without the determination of our teachers, organizers, and listeners, we wouldn’t be able to turn it into such an incredible success.

Students from Australia, Europe, and America presented the new skills they acquired during the three weeks of the course.  Hanna Pałuba, the Deputy Director of the Jewish Theater, thanked them for their efforts and engagement. I hope we can meet again in Warsaw next year.  This three-week long e-learning course was challenging for everyone, she said.

Also, Gołda Tencer has found it extremely important that so many people decided to take part in the Seminar.  The director of the Jewish Theater and the founder of the Shalom Foundation has already been planning another international project that would involve the graduates of the Seminar. This year, the teaching and learning process was a technical challenge for us. We did it for the first time. This is a lesson we learned for the next year, although I hope we can meet in Warsaw, assures Hanna Pałuba. Thank you for your hard work and for being with us.

The students of Reyze Turner presented the essays they wrote during the classes.  Those who participated in the workshops of creative writing in Yiddish hosted by Ethel Niborski read the works they have written.  Some students showed off their vocal talents, singing in Yiddish.  Everyone had the opportunity to share their impressions they had from the classes and show the most interesting works.

At the end of the ceremony, the participants watched the play “Mazl Tov” directed by Gołda Tencer.

See you next year at the next Seminar!
