The opening of Singer Jazz Festival – concert announcing the new album of RGG Group: “MYSTERIOUS MONUMENTS ON THE MOON”

Line-up: Łukasz Ojdana (piano), Maciej Garbowski (double bass), Krzysztof Gradziuk (percussion)

The new album of the RGG trio – “Mysterious Monuments on the Moon” is a reference to the artistic experiences that come from communing with the European artists (and their expression) invited to cooperate with the band: Evan Parker and Trevor Watts, Verneri Pohjola, and Samuel Blaser. As well as two-year-long concert cooperation with Tomasz Stańko. This album has also been inspired by Stanisław Lem, to whom the trio pays tribute in their piece called “Planet LEM”, referring to the excellent collection of columns written by the famous sci-fi writer. The formation’s music slips away classifications because the band members successfully avoid the mainstream music, easy solutions, and the obvious repertoire. With unprecedented consistency and stubbornness, they create their own vision of the musical space, which obviously goes beyond the boundaries of jazz.

Among a dozen or so recognizable Polish jazz piano trios, the RGG ensemble holds a special place. Founded in 2001, the formation’s line up has not changed since 2013 and includes: Łukasz Ojdana (piano), Maciej Garbowski (double bass), Krzysztof Gradziuk (percussion). All three are graduates of the Jazz Institute of the Academy of Music in Katowice. The musicians have considerable experience and achievements that have been confirmed by many awards, distinctions, and scholarships. Their interests extend far beyond jazz and music, they are artists with a unique, rare to come by awareness of what they do and the goals they pursue. They evidently are situated not just in the jazz genre, but also in contemporary improvised music of European origin.
