Developed by the Jewish Theatre, our project has been intended as a meeting on stage, a meeting that never happens in public space: Polish Jews and the fans of Legia Warszawa football team*.
Working with two groups with a very strong sense of togetherness, we want to find answers to the questions about motives, ways, and benefits of creating those collective identities. Theatrical fiction space allows for a “real” dialog between the actors of the Jewish Theatre and the fans of Legia team. It is important, though, what this dialog between the Warsaw’s residents, which is yet another but this time-binding circumstance, will bring: searching for the things that bring people together or maybe more antagonism.
Our dream is to create a situation of a deal, consensus with all significant differences intact, which means respect, finding basic grounds that make it possible. Remembering about the precept that is said to be made by Voltaire: “I do not agree with you but I will do everything to make it possible for you to share your views,” those grounds mean indisputable human values. And this is not just a problem of selected communities but the whole, divided like never before, Poland.
* The fans taking part in the stage show are not representatives of any official fan groups or Legia Warszawa club.
