Theatre is something – sings a young, cabaret artist, Lola Blau, who understands that theatre is much more than just dreams because it can offer safety, especially during a difficult time, but it is also a place where protest is simply louder. It is the year 1938, Austria is incorporated by Nazi Germany. The persecution of the European Jews becomes more violent, especially in Nazi Germany and Austria. Based in Vienna, Lola Blau starts her career at a most difficult moment she could dream of. She is Jewish and must leave Austria. She leaves for Switzerland to finally escape to the United States. There, she will find out what is a real show-business. Lola Blau will become a world-famous star. And the world is infected by evil. The end of the war brings back joy and hope but nothing will be the same anymore. Lola Blau misses her home, so she comes back to Vienna. But how is she to forget everything that happened? Where to hide from the horrors of the past? And the Germans, they come clean again, just as tourists on a plane… The only cabaret lets one sing so powerfully, bluntly and truthfully. Nothing can be changed because it’s not the best time / Nothing can be changed, not us in this clime… Today, musical monodrama about Lola Blau turns out to be needed again. Theatre is the only place that lets us believe in changes.
